SHS Announces its Varsity Lacrosse Coaching Staff

Scarsdale High School lacrosse is pleased to announce its varsity coaching staff for the upcoming 2012 season.  Tim Weir and Brendan Curran are two of Westchester County’s most accomplished youth lacrosse coaches and we welcome them to SHS.

Head Coach Tim Weir

Coach Weir has taught physical education and coached lacrosse for more than 25 years. He spent the last 7 years at Manhattanville College, serving as Head Coach in 2011. Prior to that, he was the Head Coach of Lakeland/Panas, where his team reached eight Championships in 10 seasons and won twice.  During his tenure there, L/P won 7 league titles, one regional title, and 1 NY State Final Four appearance.  The program produced 9 High School All-Americans and 7 College All-Americans. He also coached in the North-South High School All-American game in 1997 and 2005. Tim was Head Coach of the Hudson Valley Region Empire State Teams in 1994 and 1997 and became the regional coordinator for the games in 2003.

Currently Tim is Assistant Coach for Ireland’s national men’s team competing in the 2012 European Championship.  In 2010 and 2008, he was the Head Coach of the Irish National Team that competed in the World games in Canada and the European Championship respectively. He has held various positions with the National team since 2003, starting as an assistant coach and moving on to instructing youth clinics and being an offensive coordinator.  He presently is the Director of Coaching Development. 

He is one of the founders of the Hudson Valley Chapter of US Lacrosse, and served as the treasurer from 1995-1999 and high school representative from 1998-2002. Tim was president of the Section 1 Coaches Association from 2000-2004 and vice president from 1998-2000.

A graduate of St. Bonaventure University in Olean, New York  (BS Physical Education, minor Biology), Mr. Weir started the club lacrosse program, serving as the team’s captain for two years. While earning his Masters Degree in Adapted Physical Education at the University of Connecticut, Tim played on the varsity lacrosse squad.  In his community he is very active in the Yorktown Athletic Club coaching soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. He resides in Yorktown Heights with his wife Mary and their 2 children, Elisabeth and Brian

Assistant Coach Brendan Curran

Coach Curran has over 30 years of lacrosse experience. He is a Scarsdale High graduate, class of 1978. He was a first team, all-conference midfielder at SUNY Cortland. At Cortland, he played in two NCAA Division III National Championship games. He was the varsity lacrosse coach at Scarsdale from 1995-2004.  In 1997 he was awarded Coach of the Year by the Hudson Valley Lacrosse Coaches' Association. In 2004 Curran left Scarsdale to coach the varsity team in North Salem for 7 years, where he had started the youth program in 2001.  He is also the founder and president of RENEGADES LACROSSE, a local travel team program that provides clinics for both boys and girls.  We welcome Brendan back to Scarsdale.
